Family Therapy and Marriage Counselling
Emma is a trained Family Therapist and works as a family and relationships/marriage counsellor. Emma can help you explore your relationship strengths and difficulties in a safe, respectful space. She hopes to improve communication and develop awareness and understanding of your relational patterns and their origin. Together, you can then explore opportunities for change and/or repair that can ultimately promote a more positive and fulfilling family/couple life.
Many of the families and couples that she sees talk about feeling disconnected, isolated or alone, misunderstood, overwhelmed or disappointed. Perhaps the status quo has been offset, bonds of trust have been broken, or families are feeling flooded or devoid of emotions. Sometimes a life event, a diagnosis, or a gradual accumulation of grievances prompts a couple or family to seek help.
Some of the concerns that people come with might also include:
- Issues in relationships with a partner, parent or child;
- Coping with stressful or traumatic life events such as separation or divorce;
- Grief and loss of loved ones;
- Anxiety and the impact it has on everyday life;
- Feelings of being overwhelmed or depressed;
- Issues at school.
Emma studied Occupational Therapy (OT) at Coventry University and worked as an OT in Adult Mental Health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health whilst completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Systemic Psychotherapy (Family Therapy) through Bedfordshire University.
Emma loves her work and has been involved with children and families for 20 years. She is a Professional Member of the Australian Association of Family Therapists and the Australian Counselling Association. She continues to study and has an interest in Sandplay, Theraplay, Attachment-Based Family Therapy and Sensory Modulation.
