Are your kids stressing you out? Is one of them particularly worried about returning to school? Or have these holidays raised concerns about their development or how they interact with other children?
At our Kids Clinic in Woonona our child psychologists work with parents and their children in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of problems, including:
- Social anxiety and shyness
- Separation anxiety
- Oppositional behaviour and tantrums
- Food/eating problems
- Social skills deficits
- Learning problems
We run a variety of programs including Secret Agent Society and the Westmead Feelings Program and utilise well researched treatment methods such as cognitive behavioural therapy in a family and (most importantly) kid-friendly way. Your children will quickly feel comfortable in our rooms where there are many toys and games to play with.
We also work with adolescents whose problems tend more to be relational based and have often found that they benefit from having someone outside of the family and their circle of friends to talk with about important issues in their development.
Our diagnostic service for autism spectrum disorders and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are run by Dr Nick Marsden, clinical psychologist and director of the clinic, and our in-house clinical neuropsychology team. These assessments often include assessment of learning and adaptive functioning, which will assist with decisions regarding schooling.
Assessments of learning (reading, writing, maths) as well as memory and executive functions are also available and are carried out by the clinical neuropsychologist as well.
