Nick embodies a rare blend of extensive experience, rigorous research acumen, and an unwavering commitment to enhancing his therapeutic skills. However, it is his genuine warmth and empathy that is immediately apparent upon meeting him. With over two decades dedicated to understanding attachment, relationships, family systems, and neurodiversity across Australia and the UK, Nick’s journey began with a focus on children and families, delving deep into neurodevelopmental differences like ADHD and Autism while pursuing his Doctorate.
His career path naturally evolved to address the lasting impacts of childhood experiences and to specialise in supporting adults through stress and trauma. Beyond his clinical practice, Nick is a forward-thinker, consistently pioneering new avenues to serve the community. In the most recent years of his career, Nick has become an Advanced Schema Therapist and Supervisor for Schema Therapy, accredited with the International Society of Schema Therapy.
Nick is also committed to accessibility in mental health education, developing user-friendly online programs such as BOOST for parents of children with ADHD. He has redefined neurodevelopmental assessments to be comprehensive and neuroaffirming, establishing Wollongong’s leading multidisciplinary assessment team, ChAMPS. Through initiatives like these, and his pivotal role in building Marsden Health into a cornerstone of community mental health care, Nick continues to elevate standards and exceed expectations in his field.
Nick is deeply committed to mentoring psychologists who are eager to elevate their practice. With a distinguished career spanning two decades in the mental health arena, he has honed his skills across a diverse spectrum of community and private settings. From pivotal roles in drug and alcohol rehabilitation to inpatient mental health and forensic environments, Nick has garnered a profound understanding of therapeutic dynamics and human behavior to pass on. Psychologists under Nick’s guidance can expect a mentor deeply dedicated to their professional development, offering invaluable insights and a supportive environment for growth.
Nick’s curiosity and creativity extend far beyond the confines of his professional life into his personal passions. At home, he eagerly spends weekends kneading sourdough, experimenting with fermenting grain and hops, and exploring new crafts. Balancing his busy career, Nick finds joy in being fully present and playful with his young sons and wife. Together, they cherish weekends in their caravan, discovering new destinations, or venturing to remote locales to marvel at the brilliance of starlit skies. For Nick, these moments of family adventure are as fulfilling as his professional pursuits, enriching both his personal life and professional endeavors alike.
