Steven approaches everyone he meets with genuine thoughtfulness, curiosity, and a light-hearted demeanor. As an intellectually curious and culturally sensitive psychologist, he embraces a neuro-affirming and strengths-based approach in his work across the lifespan, from children and young people to adults.
Originally from Singapore, Steven is fluent in Chinese, although he humbly downplays his proficiency. He pursued his undergraduate studies before venturing to Australia for further academic and professional growth. Recently, Steven achieved a significant milestone with the completion of his PhD, focusing on gender differences in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). His research explored variations in symptom severity, treatment effectiveness, and preferences, contributing valuable insights to improve BPD treatments to be more inclusive and effective for men and women alike.
Steven’s professional journey has been enriched by diverse experiences, including his tenure at The Northfields Clinic, facilitating groups at South Coast Private Hospital, and contributing his expertise at the Illawarra Drug and Alcohol Centre. His affinity for communication and understanding of human behavior has been evident since his youth, often noted by teachers and friends alike. Described as the shy yet quirky one with a passion for gaming, Steven brings a dynamic and approachable presence to his work, always ready to engage in meaningful and enjoyable experiences.
Steven is our resident cyclist who powers his way to work and back home with old-fashioned pedal power—though he’s yet to embrace the lycra craze. He’s not one to shy away from big dreams, aiming to conquer the highest mountain and explore the deepest ocean. Despite his adventurous spirit, Steven is a realist at heart, finding joy in life’s simple pleasures amid its ups and downs.
